    Yes. Travertine is porous. Seal it and let it dry. Test by pouring a small amount of water onto the sealed area. If the water beads, then you're finished. If the water soaks in, then repeat with another coat of sealer.

    What if the sealer is too shiny, or when I scratch it a light film comes off? Can I buff the floor to remove the thin layer and remove some of the shine?

    Yes, that is an easy fix. Also try lemongrass oil, a natural way to fill small scratches. In larger amounts it seals without a high shine.

    How do I bring back the shine to travertine if it's dull and drab?

    I used marble polish. I have an Oreck machine. There are 3 pads that I use the most. Black or brown pad to clean of the top layer. Sweep and wash and dry. I used Tenax marble polish. Beware, best to use less than more. Try the polish in a small area that is clean. Put some powder in a few spots, wet thoroughly. Run the white pad. Keep shining to your desired shine. Mop up and dry. Then use the red pad to buff. Use the red pad for your desired result. Was floor and then seal. Check out the different sealers to find one you like. Also, don’t forget to seal the grout. The pads are 3M. Pick the high end sealer if you can. Test the sealer for a minimum of 24 hours
