You're sitting in it! Even if you're just driving for a few minutes, you've got to take the fur coat off. Fur is very unforgiving when it comes to friction so you really don't want to lean or rest against anything while you're wearing your fur.

I generally suggest keeping pelts at 69 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. Not only does the cooler temperature keep the fur healthy, but it's also going to keep bugs away. Moths are really a disaster for a fur pelt, and there are all kinds of other bugs that will damage them. Keeping the temperature on the cooler side should prevent a lot of that.
  • Question
Does it help to shave the fur 1/2" before sewing by machine, shaving just enough from the cut edges before sewing?
    T. Chinsen
    Top Answerer
Shaving the fur can make for a tighter seam. It also creates an uneven layer to sew, as the fur section will be thicker than the shaved side. Taping down the fur away from the seam area will flatten the stitching area. Position the stitching ~1/4" (0.5 cm) from the shaved edge. So long as there is a flat surface under the sewing foot, you will have a tight seam and the slight gap will not be seen if the fur is thick. Adjust the stitch placement for shorter fur.
  • Question
What type of thread do I use for beaver pelts?
    T. Chinsen
    Top Answerer
According to the article in the section on sewing the pelts, waxed nylon, carpet-weight, or linen thread can be used. Wax on the thread allows it to slide through the pelt material. Without wax on the thread, the pelt will grab the thread and it will not move through the hole.
