Definitely think about where you're going to get your supplies when you do need them, for example, things like fuel or electricity. You're going to want to think about what could happen if something breaks. What's your backup? If you do drive to your location, you should probably have a backup of fuel in case you need to go to town for delivery service. I would also think about having a backup of food and backup ways to store cold food, for example, heavy-duty freezers that can keep your food cold for several days even if the power goes out.
  • Question
How will I keep up with the latest memes?
    Community Answer
Go to a library and log onto one of their computers. Make sure you don't go to the same library every time. Create a fake social media account.
  • Question
What happens if the government finds out that I'm trying to get off the grid?
    Community Answer
It is not like the government goes around to check out every individual. No one really cares about what you do in your life, especially if your record is clean. Just keep out of anything illegal and you should be fine.
  • Question
How can I avoid loneliness while living off the grid?
    Community Answer
If you're not married, get an animal companion. Find ways to communicate and interact with other human being, just do it in person.
  • Question
Can you get in trouble by staying off the grid?
    Community Answer
Don't do anything illegal. You're going to have to pay the government taxes you owe, and you have to comply with zoning laws. Do not take someone else's identity.
  • Question
If staying off the grid means being completely isolated from the world, how is it supposed to be an advantage?

  • Question
Would there be a way to live off the grid and not have any interactions with the government (likes taxes for example)?
    Community Answer
Not legally, but if you decide to wander into the wilderness and fend for yourself, then there's a chance you'll never see anyone, including government agents, again. It's a tough life but some people choose it.
