    If you think you have it threaded correctly, make sure thread isn't wound around the spool holder. Start at the spool and follow the thread through the mechanisms; make sure it can move freely when you pull gently on the thread.

    Should the bottom stitch look exactly like the top stitch? My bottom stitch looks different.

    Yes, unless you are sewing a chain stitch available on some models. If the top side looks light, lower the top tension. If bottom threads look taut, increase the top tension.
