QuestionCan beak and feather disease be cured?Dr. Elliott, BVMS, MRCVS is a veterinarian with over 30 years of experience in veterinary surgery and companion animal practice. She graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1987 with a degree in veterinary medicine and surgery. She has worked at the same animal clinic in her hometown for over 20 years.Psittacine Beak & Feather Disease (PBFD) is caused by a virus, (specifically a Circovirus). Unlike bacterial infections which respond to antibiotics, there is no cure for this viral infection. The closest you can get to a 'cure' is that the bird is positive for the Circovirus but they don't become sick. However, these birds can shed virus and remain a risk to other birds.
