Vinegar and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) are both gentle, natural cleansers. Plus, they’re kitchen staples, so there’s a good chance you already have both of them around the house! Heat 1 cup (240 mL) of white vinegar on the stove until it’s simmering hot, then pour that down the drain. The baking soda will fizz and bubble as it reacts with the vinegar. Wait 15 minutes before flushing your drain with a stream of hot water from your faucet or a tea kettle. [3]

    When you start your load of laundry, mix about 1/2 a cup (110g) of baking soda into your favorite liquid laundry detergent.     A baking soda and vinegar paste is abrasive and can rub away stuck-on grime. Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the surface you want to clean (such as a grimy pot or dirty stovetop), then spritz on just a little bit of vinegar from a spray bottle. Grab a scrub brush or sponge and scrub hard to break down stubborn dirt and residue. When you’re done, rinse the surface with warm water. [12]

    Spray white vinegar on your sink, shower door, or any other surface where you have a buildup of mineral deposits or soap scum. [15] Let it soak for a few hours or overnight to let the vinegar work. [16] Then, make a paste of baking soda and a few drops of water and use it to scrub away the gunk.     Baking soda is great for breaking down coffee stains, and vinegar can help bust stubborn residue. If your favorite mug or carafe is starting to look a little gross, whip up a paste of baking soda and little bit of warm water. Put the concoction on a damp kitchen sponge and use it to gently scrub away the stains. If that doesn’t take care of the stains, fill the mug with a mixture of 1 part water and 1 part hot, white vinegar, and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, wash it with dish soap and a scrubby sponge.     Soak your gross grill grate in a bucket of hot, soapy water for at least 30 minutes. Then, mix up some baking soda and just enough white vinegar to make an abrasive paste.     Take out your oven racks, thermometer, and any other removable parts. Then, mix 1/2 a cup (110g) of baking soda with about 3 tablespoons (44 mL) of water. Put on some gloves and spread the paste all over the inside of your oven, except on the heating elements.     Vinegar and baking soda work great to clean stains off of a showerhead. Take the showerhead off and put it in a bucket. Submerge the showerhead with vinegar and add a 1/2 cup of baking soda. Let it soak for an hour before rinsing it clean.

However, since vinegar is an acid and baking soda is a base, they’ll also neutralize each other, leaving you with plain old salt and water!
