Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device. This app icon looks like a blue background with white dots on it. You can find this app on either your home screen, in the app drawer, or by searching.

Tap the Today tab with the multi-dot icon. This might also be labeled Dashboard . You'll find it at the bottom-left corner of the screen.Advertisement

Tap the plus (+) icon on the "Exercise" tile. You should see a counter of your up-to-date activity.

Tap Log Previous . This will indicate that you have already completed the exercise and need to add it to your daily log.

Tap an exercise or search for one. You can pick from the list an activity that most closely resembles your exercise. If your exercise is not listed here, choose Workout .

Enter the activity details. You'll need to log how long you performed the exercise as well as the intensity levels.

Tap your Fitbit picture. You'll see this and the Fitbit's model name in the top left corner of your screen.

Tap Exercise Shortcuts . This is usually in the third grouping.

Tap Edit . This will pull up a list of all the exercises you can add to your shortcuts.

If something like a Fitbit motivates you to hit that extra 2,000 steps or makes you notice if your resting heart rate is a bit high, it can definitely be a good tool. It’s especially helpful if having that data in front of you pushes you to stay on track and do more. For example, I personally use a food tracker to log everything I eat, be it calories, macronutrients, and fiber. Even though I know what I’m eating, seeing the data laid out really helps me stay focused and aware. But it’s important not to treat the numbers from a Fitbit as 100% accurate. It can’t give you the exact numbers on things like calories burned or steps taken, but it’s great for tracking your trends over time, like how many steps you’re doing this week compared to last month. Fitbit can definitely be a positive addition to your exercise and fitness routine, but just remember that it’s not a perfect measure of everything.
