Epic Dragons are rare dragons that are hard to breed. In the world of DragonVale, “Epic” is an umbrella term used for a wide variety of dragons, including many limited-edition/expired ones. While any of these dragons can be created using the standard Breeding Cave, an Epic Breeding Island or Epic Breeding Sanctuary may boost your odds of getting the dragon you want. ^{[1]

A Hybrid Dragon requires at least 2 different elements to breed. For instance, a Cactus Dragon is a Hybrid Dragon of the Plant and Lightning elements, while a Blizzard Dragon is a Hybrid Dragon of the Air and Cold elements. Getting any type of Epic Dragon typically requires different types of elemental Hybrids—here’s a list of some common ones to help you get started:
- Plant Hybrids: Poison, Flower, Tree, Lichen, Evergreen
- Fire Hybrids: Lava, Obsidian, Frostfire, Blue Fire, Firefly
- Water Hybrids: Swamp, Seaweed, Coral, Salamander, Mud
- Earth Hybrids: Dodo, Mountain, Quake, Moss, Cave
- Air Hybrids: Willow, Pollen, Blazing, Smoke, Sandstorm
- Lightning Hybrids: Cactus, Ash, Crystal, Storm, Hail

Opposite Dragons are bred with contrasting elements. The best way to breed this unique type of Dragon is by taking a primary elemental Dragon (like Fire, Water, Plant, etc.) and breeding it with a Hybrid Dragon. For instance, a Blue Fire Dragon is a combination of the opposing Fire and Cold Elements and can be bred with a Basic Dragon of a single element (like Fire), and a Hybrid Dragon of the opposing element (in this case, a Cold Hybrid Dragon like a Mountain Dragon. ^{[5]

How do I breed rare dragons in Dragonvale?

There are many different rare dragons, but to get rainbow or double rainbow dragons, you have to use 4 of the elements fire, water, earth and air, or dark, light, metal, lightning. Longer breeding and incubating times means a better dragon, and you need a rainbow habitat for them.

You can breed cold and earth for an Arctic or Mountain dragon, then breed a fire hybrid for a different way to get a cyclops dragon.

How do you breed four elements?

Breed 2 hybrids, each with different elements, like swamp/storm, as swamp dragons are water/plant hybrids, and storm dragons are cold/lightning hybrids. Examples you could try are mountain/ash, quake/ice, and so on. For better chances at epic and rare dragons, try using 2 hybrid dragons of level 11 and up.
