Ways to Add Custom Themes

  1. Tumblr has a number of premade codes you can load in directly in the Tumblr theme editor. Simply go to Account and click the blog you want to edit, then go to Blog settings > Edit theme . Click Browse themes at the top of the left-hand sidebar.
    • Some of these themes cost money. You can filter the themes by clicking the dropdown next to All Themes at the top of the sidebar, then clicking Free Themes (or whatever other filter you want to use).
    • If you can't find a theme you like, you can click the button at the bottom of the sidebar that says "Search waaay more themes." with a green eye icon.
    • In previous versions of Tumblr, this was called the Theme Garden.
  2. If you don't like the themes promoted on Tumblr, you can also use premade themes created by other Tumblr users by adding the theme code to your blog. This includes making custom themes for entire blogs as well as individual pages.
    • There are a number of ways to find these themes, but one of the best resources is theme-hunter on Tumblr . This blog aggregates a ton of Tumblr themes, and allows you to sort through them with their filters.
    • To install one of these Tumblr themes, go to Account and click the blog you want to edit, then go to Blog settings > Edit theme . Then, click Edit HTML at the top of the left sidebar and paste the theme code. [2]
      • Each theme should have a tutorial on how to install it included in the post.
  3. If you can't find a theme that fits your needs, you can create your own. This requires knowledge of HTML and CSS. You can also use JavaScript as well, but it's not required.
