QuestionLast Saturday night I drank 1 liter of straight vodka, and I was okay for the rest of the night, does that mean I am addicted to alcohol?Community AnswerNo, it means you have a high tolerance for alcohol. When you start feeling a compulsion to drink even when you shouldn’t, then it can cause serious problems for you and your health.

QuestionCan a hangover last a full day?Community AnswerIt really depends on the amount of alcohol you consumed and your general tolerance. It also depends on whether you were hydrated before you started, or whether you were hydrating throughout the night. Remember to hydrate yourself.

QuestionI have a hard time drinking strong spirits, it makes me feel like I'm about to throw up right after and I get gagging reflexes right after taking a shot. This wasn't the case before, what can I do?Community AnswerI had a bad experience once with strong spirits. What I did to be able to drink them again was dilute them massively for a bit, then as I slowly got more and more drunk I added more spirit to it and then by the end of the night I could shot spirits like there was no tomorrow.

QuestionIs it true that blue-eyed people have a higher alcohol tolerance compared to others?Community AnswerNo, it's not. There is some evidence to suggest a link between blue eyes and alcoholism, but that's it.

QuestionI know im not addicted to alcohol but when I get a chance, I drink it. What does that make me?ElliotCommunity AnswerThat just makes you someone who enjoys drinking. If you're concerned you have a problem that is either causing you distress or disrupting your life, you can try going to AA meetings/therapy or talking to someone in your life about how you're feeling.

QuestionBefore I could drink as much as I wanted and not get nauseous but now I barely drink one or two and get nauseous and make myself throw up to feel better. Why do I get nauseous now but before I wouldn't?TorpiTop AnswererHave you switched drinks? Drinking more sugary drinks than you're used to, or drinks with more tannins (e.g red wine) can make you feel nauseous. But this also happens if you drink too often - it could be your body telling you to take a break, or a subconscious association with hangovers.

QuestionSome days I get this feeling that I can't wait for 5pm (the appropriate drinking time) to roll around, but when it hits, I don't feel compelled to drink, am I alcohol dependent?TorpiTop AnswererIt sounds like you control your drinking, so you're probably not a "classic" alcoholic. Without knowing more it's hard to say whether you're a "high functioning" alcoholic, or whether your subconscious thinks of quitting time as alcohol time even though what you're really looking forward to is ending work for the day.
