You can keep the three jacks in your hand without putting them down, but you may get stuck with them at the end. The ace can get played high and low in the game. And, for your last question, when you make a run with an ace, you can choose for it to go high or low. In the same run, it can only be one or the other.

If there are three Kings in the discard pile do I have to have a king in my hand pick them up?

  • Question
In a game with two players, if player 1 goes out with a 5,6,7 of clubs and player 2 has the 3, 4 of clubs left, can player 2 lay them down for points, or does he need to keep them and subtract?

No, once a player goes out, the remaining cards being held must be counted against you.
  • Question
If I lay down an Ace, King and wild card for the Queen in the same suit, can another player lay down the actual Queen for 10 points?
    Community Answer
No if joker is played as Queen. Same with sets if all four of a set is played, then you can't put more than the four cards for that set. With a run, joker replaces Queen. The only way that Queen can be used is in a set, unless there are already 4 cards played as set.
  • Question
If I pick up the last stock card and use it to put cards down, then have one card to go out and win the game, can the other player pick up the card I threw down because there are none in the stock?
    Community Answer
No. Once you've thrown down the card and ended the game, you have ended the game. The other player would not pick a card from anywhere.
  • Question
If you pick up the last card in the discard pile do you have to play it right away?

  • Question
What happens if you run out of stock pile or cards from which to pick?

  • Question
Can a player call rummy on his own discard?
    Community Answer
Yes, they can, if the blue card is played, then they can play a discard. However, it can only be used once. So if player one uses it once, he can't use it again however, player two can.
  • Question
Do I need a pair in my hand to pick up from cards discarded?
    Community Answer
Yes. You must immediately be able to use whichever card you first pick up from the discard pile. So you either need 2 of a kind or 2 in a row of a suit.
  • Question
Can I use jokers in Rummy 500 to replace other cards?
    Community Answer
Yes, as long as all players agree and the jokers are then not wild.
  • Question
Can I continue to run if I have the next subsequent card if another player "hits" on a run of cards on my pile?
    Community Answer
Yes, but only when it is your turn. When it is your turn to play you may lay down any card that continues any run on the table. You may not discard any card that can be played. If you accidentally discard a "play" card, the player who spots it first and declares "rummy" may pick it up, but only if the next player has not yet drawn a card. You may not retrieve what you have just discarded. You may not go out on a card that can be played. You are "floating" and must wait until your turn comes around again, then if the card you draw cannot be played, you can discard and go out.
  • Question
After someone is out and has laid down all the cards in his melds, can other people add to the winner's melds before tallying their own scores?
    Community Answer
No. Game play ends as soon as someone is out of cards, and every card you are holding counts against you.
  • Question
If there is a three card meld in the stock pile after I discard my last card to go out, can a player call it rummy?
    Community Answer
The last discard of the game should be placed face down and end the game. No rummy is able to be called.
  • Question
What do people mean when they say that they're "floating"?
    Community Answer
It means they have used all of their cards in melds and have nothing to discard. When/if their turn comes again they draw a card and if they can't play it they will discard and game over.
