QuestionHow does the string feed itself - banging the reel on the ground worked with a previous trimmer, but not with this small Black & Decker one. What can I do?Community AnswerCheck if it's an automatic feeder or a bump feeder. Your old trimmer was a bump feeder, so you did the right thing when trying to feed the string, however doing this on an automatic feeder can damage your model. Read the box and instructions. If it's an automatic feed you don't need to do anything--it will adjust on its own. If you've already banged it and it doesn't work, it's possible you've damaged the feed motor.

QuestionI have a B&D 20 V battery combo lawn and edger. When should I get a new string?Community AnswerIf you don't already have a spare line, buy one now. That way you have it when it is needed. You replace it when there is no more of the old line left.

QuestionWhen winding the spool should the line be wound in the same direction the spool turns during operation?Community AnswerFollow the arrows on the side of the spool for the best results when winding the spool. Typically this is counter-clockwise.

QuestionHow do take off the housing to replace it?Community AnswerThere should be two tabs on the side of the housing that you can press in with your fingers. Then lift out. If you're talking about taking the spool out of the housing, then you just need to disconnect the line from the housing eyelets and lift the spool out of the housing. Wiggle it a bit if it's become stuck.

QuestionHow do I stop my trimmer from feeding the line out too fast?Community AnswerYour trimmer should have a blade that prevents your line from getting too long. That blade may have become dull, in which case you should purchase a new one. If you want to disable the auto feed from working altogether, you can apply duct tape to the inside of the trimmer's head on top of the feeder lever. The feeder lever is a small plastic lever that regulates your line's feed.

QuestionHow do you get the cord out of the spool?Community AnswerRemove the line from the eyelets and just pull with your hands. It might be a little hard at first, but it should become loose.
