It is always a good habit to occasionally change the password of your social media accounts, or other accounts for that matter, for internet security. For the Facebook app on Android, whether you have forgotten your password or just want to change it for security purposes, changing your password is easy. Here's how to change your Facebook account password on an Android device.
Quick Steps
- Open Facebook and tap ☰ .
- Go to Settings & privacy > Settings .
- Open the Meta Accounts Center.
- Go to Password and security > Change password .
- Select your Facebook account.
- Enter your current password, then type in your new password twice.
- Tap Change password .

- If you aren't already logged in, enter your email address or phone number and password to do so now.
- If you’ve forgotten your password and aren’t currently logged in, you’ll need to reset it from the login screen .

Tap Settings & privacy . You can find this near the bottom of the menu.

Tap Settings . It’s the first option in the expanded Settings & privacy menu.

Tap See more in Accounts Center . This is the box at the top.

Tap Password and security . It’s under the Account settings header in the Accounts Center menu.

Tap Change password . This will take you to a list of all your linked Meta accounts (including Facebook and Instagram accounts ).

Select the account you want to update. Find your Facebook account in the list and tap on it.

Enter your current password, then the new one. On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to enter the current password for your account. Enter your new password twice in the next two fields.
- If you like, you can choose to log out of any other devices when you update your password. This is a good idea if you think someone else logged into your account.
- If you’re currently logged in but don’t remember your password, tap the Forgot your password? link and follow the prompts to reset it.

Tap Change password . You should now be able to log into Facebook with your new password.

Try these alternatives if you can’t access the Accounts Center. According to Facebook’s Help Center, some people may still be unable to access the Meta Accounts Center. [1] X Research source If this is the case for you, try one of these alternative methods:
- Go to ☰ More > Settings & privacy > Privacy checkup . Scroll down to the Account settings section and tap How to keep your account secure . Select Review , and then Change password .
- If you’re using an older version of the Facebook app, you may be able to change your password by going to ☰ More > Settings & privacy > Settings > Password and security > Change Password .

Log into your account. Enter your login information on the fields provided, and tap “Log in” to continue.
- Accessing Facebook from your Android’s web browser will take you to Facebook’s mobile web page. It will look very similar to the Facebook app’s interface.

Select your Facebook account. You’ll see a list of all your linked Meta accounts. Select the Facebook account you want to update.

Enter your current and new password information. On the next page, type your current password into the first field, then enter your new password twice in the next two fields.
- If you’re already logged in but don’t remember your current password, tap Forgot your password? and follow the prompts to reset it.
- Make sure the Log out of other devices option is checked if you’re afraid someone else has hacked into your account.

Tap Change password . When you’ve entered your new password, select the Change password button at the bottom of the screen. You can now log into Facebook with your new login information.

Select Search by email instead . If you use your mobile number to log into Facebook, enter it now.

Enter your email address and tap Continue . You'll receive an email link to reset your password, or a code.
- If you used your mobile number, you may need to verify via code.

Change your password. If you were sent an email link to reset your password, after resetting, you will be asked to create a new password. Enter the new password in the first box and confirm it in the second box. Click “Continue” to save your new password.
